What Is Appendicitis?
Appendicitis is an inflammation of the appendix, a finger-shaped pouch that projects from your colon on the lower right side of your abdomen. As inflammation worsens, appendicitis pain typically increases and eventually becomes severe. Surgical removal of the appendix is a must and medical attention must be taken in case of increasing abdominal pain as complications of appendicitis is life-threatening.
What are the Signs and symptoms of Appendicitis?
-Sudden pain that begins around your navel and often shifts to your lower right abdomen.
-Pain that worsens if you cough, walk or make other jarring movements.
-Nausea and vomiting.
-Loss of appetite.
-Low-grade fever that may worsen as the illness progresses.
-Constipation or diarrhea.
-Abdominal bloating and pain.
What are the complications of Appendicitis?
A ruptured appendix. A rupture spreads infection throughout your abdomen (peritonitis). Possibly life-threatening, this condition requires immediate surgery to remove the appendix and clean your abdominal cavity.
So what is the treatment?
Treatment is the quick surgical removal of appendix through tiny surgical openings by laparoscopy. And in some cases, open surgery is needed according to the case state.
